Seeing a Movie Scene - A Hike to Whitaker Point

Seeing a Movie Scene - A Hike to Whitaker Point

Autumn view of Whitaker Point overlook framed by fall foliage, with text reading “A Hike to Whitaker Point.”

 Dear Henry,

What an amazing view.

Do you remember that place in Tuck Everlasting? The one that feels suspended outside of time,  quiet, beautiful, and almost untouched? A place where the world slows down long enough for you to notice it?

We hiked there this weekend.

Or at least somewhere that feels very much like it.

Whitaker Point, also known as Hawksbill Crag, was dressed in its autumn best. The trail wound through falling leaves, the trees glowing gold and rust, the air cool enough to make every step feel earned. When we reached the overlook, the view opened up exactly the way you hope it will, wide, dramatic, and breathtaking.

Of course, Whitaker Point is also one of the most popular hikes in the area.

So in real life, the crag doesn’t look quite like a movie still. There were people. Laughter. Tripods. Dogs. Couples taking turns at the edge for photos. It turns out even the most cinematic landscapes are rarely empty outside of fiction.

And that’s okay.

We still had a lot of fun,  and plenty of company. There’s something comforting about sharing beauty, about standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers who all made the same climb for the same reason. The trail buzzed with quiet joy, the kind that comes from knowing you’re somewhere worth the effort.

Even with the crowds, the views were spectacular.

Some places don’t lose their magic just because you’re not alone. They simply remind you that wonder, like good stories, was never meant to be kept to yourself.

xoxo,
