What's New - August 17
What's new with you?
This last week has been a very difficult week for us, Fish started working in Tulsa and so our period of "dual city living" has begun. We also lost Pookie, our oldest cat this week. It wasn't unexpected, we think she was around 20 when she passed (she was a rescue, so we were never sure exactly how old she was) and had been declining for some time. Despite that, it was still very difficult to let her go, and losing her took the wind out of my sails for a couple of days.
Before everything got crazy though, I did get a field trip in. In Finding Something Spooky, I tell you all about going to the Ozark Spook Light (or Hornet Spook Light, as it is sometimes called) and, really, to be honest, I never have great luck trying to find things like this.
Over a www.riteoffancy.com, I also managed to get a book review in - The Road Beyond Ruin by Gemma Liviero. This is a historical novel set in Europe after WWII ended and demonstrates the challenges people faced when trying to recover and rebuild. It was an engaging story and I enjoyed the book.
I also put together a book list: Fun With Food, a cooking-themed book list that features the autobiographies of Julia Child, Bourdain's tell-all, and Wilson's history of cooking tools and table etiquette. The list also contains Mayes' Tuscan adventure and Critser's seminal work Fat Land.
At www.everydaypatriot.com, I finished the biography of Colonel Robert Taplett, a US Marine who served in both WWII and the Korean War.
In an effort to stretch my wings, this week I will be teaching my very first photography class "How to Take a Picture You Like - No Matter What Kind of Camera You Have", wish me luck for a successful class, I'm quite nervous.
I also hope to get out and go for a drive.
